Over 194,000 Trees Planted Across Cumbria in 2024–25 Season
Raise: Cumbria Community Forest has completed its third successful planting season, bringing the total number of trees planted since 2022 to more than 339,000.

Forester for a Day
Earlier this month, Raise Cumbria invited KS1&2 children from Bewcastle School to Kingmoor South Nature Reserve. As part of the school’s ambition to introduce the children to a wide range of job roles and different sectors, they were able to join Gary Waters (Head Forester) as ‘Forester for a Day!’
The Raise Collective: Exploring new ways to create accessible woodland
In late November, the Raise team hosted the second Raise Collective session in Barrow - an inspiring day of woodland walking, discussion, and creative collaboration focused on the planned development of new woodlands in Barrow.
Record breaking planting season for Raise: Cumbria Community Forest
Communities across Cumbria will benefit from the creation of new woodland, following our record tree planting season!
Tree planting takes place between November and March every year and last season, over 87ha of woodland was planted within the Raise: Cumbria Community Forest boundaries – that’s equivalent to the area of Buttermere!
Forests with Impact launch event at HMP Haverigg
Earlier this month, Raise Cumbria’s James and Gary attended the launch event of Forests with Impact at HMP Haverigg in Cumbria.
As national partners, we are proud to support Forests with Impact. This award-winning social enterprise has created a commercial tree nursery at the prison to support prisoner rehabilitation, create a pathway to employment upon release, and fight against climate change.
National Tree Week
National Tree Week, which runs from 23 November to 1 December, is the UK’s largest annual tree celebration, marking the start of the winter planting season.
