At Raise: Cumbria Community Forest, we’re reimagining what woodland creation can be: more inclusive, more creative, and more connected to the ways people experience the world. We work with communities, landowners, artists, volunteers and partners across Cumbria to create and care for woodlands that support nature recovery and help people feel connected to place.

Working with Raise means contributing to long-term environmental change while being part of a small, collaborative team that values different perspectives, practical action and community relationships.

Job opportunities

We regularly recruit for roles connected to woodland creation, community engagement, forestry and project delivery. As a small organisation, opportunities vary throughout the year, but we encourage people to check back regularly for new vacancies.

Apprenticeships

We support pathways into forestry and environmental work through apprenticeship opportunities and hands-on learning.

Our current Community Forester apprentice, Kathryn, is documenting her experience through our blog series, Growing in Forestry. The series explores learning new skills, working outdoors and building confidence in the sector.

Volunteering

Our Volunteer Community Forester programme offers regular opportunities to support woodland creation and care across Cumbria. Sessions are designed to be neuro-affirming, welcoming and practical, with activities including tree planting, maintenance and creative workshops.

Creative and freelance opportunities

We sometimes work with artists, creatives and freelancers on projects connected to woodland culture, interpretation, community engagement and inclusive environmental practice.

We are particularly interested in working with people who identify as neurodivergent, as we value different ways of thinking about nature restoration, creativity and access to green spaces.
