Community Tree Planting Day - Cockan Farm
Saturday 21 February | 10am – 3.30pm
Join Raise and West Cumbria Rivers Trust for a community tree planting day at Cockan Farm in Frizington. This is a hands-on day outdoors, helping to establish new trees while spending time with others from the local area.
No previous experience is needed. Whether you can join for the whole day or just part of it, you’ll be very welcome.
Aims of the new woodland creation at Cockan Farm include:
supporting nature recovery through diverse woodland habitats such as dense woodland groves, open glades and wet woodland.
Protecting and enhancing existing habitats at the site, such as watercourses and mature/veteran trees.
Supporting public access by creating a permissive path through the site which connects to an existing public right of way.
What the day will involve
We’ll meet at Kirkland Mission Church before walking together to the planting site. The day will include guided tree planting sessions, time to warm up, and space to take breaks as needed.
Outline of the day
10.00–10.15: Arrival at Kirkland Mission Church, teas and coffees, introductions
10.15–12.45: Walk to site and tree planting
12.45–1.30: Walk back to the church, lunch, teas and coffees, warm up
1.30–3.15: Walk back to the site and continue tree planting
3.15–3.30: Wrap-up, thank yous, walk back to the church and collect belongings

Parking
There is space for around 6–8 cars near the church. Please car share if you can, as parking is limited.
What to bring
Warm, waterproof clothing
Sturdy, waterproof footwear
Your own lunch
Tea, coffee and snacks will be provided.
All tree planting equipment will be supplied by Raise and West Cumbria Rivers Trust.
Who can attend
Everyone is welcome
Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult
You don’t need any previous experience of tree planting
